Personal History The Hallowes have a long tradition of military service going back to World War II when Herbert James Lampriere Hallowes flew during the Battle of Britain. So, Roland knew from early on what he wanted to be and had the full support of his family. If he and his siblings got into trouble, Roland nearly always proved to be the leader/instigator. He and his brother, Edward, have a long history of playing practical jokes on each other which continues to this day. With a lot of energy and a need to be doing, school wasn't easy for him; he persevered once it became clear to him that no one was going to give him a plane if he couldn't pass his courses.
